Lift inspector - Appointment

General information

In accordance with the Upper Austrian lift law (Aufzugsgesetz) 1998, the state government must appoint persons as lift inspectors by its own commission. Certain duties apply to this process in this state law. The Upper Austrian lift law of 1998 governs the installation and the operation of locally connected links, stairways and moving walkways in Upper Austria, However,in particular lifts in commercial  facilities are excluded from the scope of the Upper Austrian lift law of 1998.

Requirements

In order to achieve a positive implementation of the authority, a practical and one of the following skills must be proven:

  1. a permit as an engineering consultant or a civil engineer in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering and at least one year in the practical applicatiion in lift construction or

  2. a permit certifying a second diplom degree in the field of study in electrical engineering or the field of study in mechanical engineering or at least two-years of the practical applicaion in lift construction

  3. a certificate indicating successful attendance of a higher technical educational institution with a focus in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering or a special form of these educational institutions and at least three years of practical application in lift construction.

If the skill cannot be proven according to points 1 to 3, it must be proven with diplomas, test certficates or other proof of aptitude which indicate that the holder has completed at least three years or part-time study corresponding to this period of time at a university, a technical or another educational institution with an equivalent level and at least one year practical use in lift construction.

Practical application in lift construction to to be demonstrated through activities in the following areas:

  1. the construction and measurement of mechanical and electrical system components;

  2. the handling of circuit diagrams (control, drive and control areas, safety circuits and similar items) and

  3. the installation of lifts in the mechanical and electrical engineering area.

The provision of proof of practical application in lift construction can be waived if it was provided in another way, is equivalent and proof can be provided on this, particularly with certificates on qualified activities in the area of lift inspection under the management of a lift inspector.

The lift inspector may not be financially dependent on companies which are involved in the construction or maintenance of lifts.
