Physical education – Granting of the qualification certificate for a particular sport

In Upper Austria, the professional provision of physical education in a particular sport is only allowed with an official qualification certificate.

This qualification certificate has to be issued by the authority within eight weeks after receiving the necessary evidence (§ 16 Upper Austrian Sporting Code) on the basis of a written registration of the activity, if the applicant meets the general requirements pursuant to § 14 Upper Austrian Sporting Code and possesses the required professional competence for the registered activity pursuant to § Upper Austrian Sporting Code. The registration has to contain the exact designation of the proposed activity and the proposed location for the carrying out of the activity.

According to § 14 Upper Austrian Sporting Code, the qualification certificate for providing physical education in a particular sport may be issued to a natural person who 

·         is 18 years or older,

·         has the required reliability,

·         is in a proper state of health to carry out the respective activity and

·         proves they have adequate liability insurance Coverage. This qualification certificate may also be issued to a legal entity, partnerships under commercial law or a registered purchasing company, if the managing director or leaseholder meets the mentioned general requirements and has the required professional competence for the registered activity.
The qualification certificate for the provision of physical education in a particular sport is granted for a specific Location.
Only people who have been issued the qualification certificate for providing physical education in a particular sport may use the title “Upper Austrian PE teacher” or “school” with addition of the respective kind of Sport.
When carrying out this activity, the general rules of practice pursuant to § 17 Upper Austrian Sporting Code are to be adhered to.

FEES:

Provincial administrative fee pursuant to Upper Austrian provincial administration fee ordinance 2011
for the awarding of the qualification: 52 Euro

Fees according to the Fee Act 1957:
for submission of the application: 47.30 Euro;
for the enclosures that have to be added to the application: 3.90 Euro
per sheet*, but no more than 21.80 Euro per enclosure;
for the granting of the authorization: 83.60 Euro.

* Sheet means paper whose side height does not exceed the extent of twice 210 mm X 297 mm in one or both directions. For paper sheets which exceed these dimensions, double the fee per sheet is charged.
